Hello,
It's Sam from SB Creatives Photography here....
Yesterday morning, I had the honour of photographing Meir’s Bris — a truly heartfelt event held at Nefesh Shul. The ceremony took place at sunrise, and although it was early, you would never have guessed it based on the energy in the room. The Shul was buzzing well before things began, filled with warmth, purpose and a genuine sense of celebration. It was more than just a Bris — it was a powerful gathering of community and tradition wrapped into one beautiful morning.
The Bris of a firstborn son is always a deeply emotional event. There’s the sacred significance of the ceremony itself, of course — a continuation of Jewish tradition that stretches back thousands of years. But there’s also something unique about seeing a family step into a new chapter of their life with such love surrounding them. Ezry and Chavi, the proud parents, stood at the centre of it all — radiating both joy and humility.
What really struck me was how far people came and how early they arrived to be part of this simcha. From Ezry’s work colleagues, many of whom took time before starting their own day, to Chavi’s family who flew up from Melbourne, everyone showed up — and not just physically, but emotionally too. There was real heart in the room. The kind of energy that fills the space when a community rallies behind one of its own.
And this wasn’t just a gathering of relatives and close friends. It felt like the entire community came out to show support. Old mates who go way back with Ezry and Chavi, members of the Shul community, extended family, people who’ve shared life’s ups and downs over the years — all there, celebrating the birth of this baby boy. I couldn’t help but smile seeing all the heartfelt reunions, the laughter between old friends, and even a few tears shared quietly in the corner during the ceremony.
From a photographer’s perspective, this kind of event is incredibly rewarding. There are so many layers to capture: the gentle moments between grandparents and the baby, the emotional expressions during the blessings, the pride in the parents' eyes, and those spontaneous reactions from friends seeing each other again for the first time in ages. It's these in-between moments — the glances, the embraces, the stillness during prayer — that tell the full story.
Being there with my camera felt like both a privilege and a responsibility. I wasn’t just documenting a milestone; I was preserving memories that this young family will look back on for generations. Moments like this, surrounded by so much meaning and love, remind me exactly why I do what I do.
To Ezry and Chavi — thank you for inviting me into such a sacred and personal part of your life. Your baby boy is already surrounded by an incredible community, and it was a beautiful thing to witness. I wish you endless joy, good health, and continued blessings as you embark on this new chapter as a family.
Mazel tov again — and may Meir grow to K’sheim shenichnas la’bris, kein yikaneis l’Torah, l’chuppah, u’l’maasim tovim - As he has entered this covenant, so may he attain the blessings of Torah, marriage, and a life of good deeds.
