On November 28, 2024, I had the privilege of photographing the Hakoah Club’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) at a temporary location, a school next door to the site of their new home, which is under construction. This was a significant moment for both the club and the community, as the Hakoah Club’s legacy continues to unfold, transitioning from its previous site on Hall Street, which closed in 2009.


The Hakoah Club, founded in 1938 as a football club, holds an important place in Sydney’s Jewish community. Over the years, the club has grown, offering sports, cultural, and social opportunities for its members. The AGM marked not only a celebration of the club’s accomplishments but also a look toward its future, with the completion of the new facility expected within two years.


As a photographer, it was fascinating to capture the spirit of the event and the history of the Hakoah Club during a time of great change. The AGM was held in a space that still felt connected to the past, but the excitement and anticipation for the club's future were palpable. Many attendees shared stories of the club's founding and its legacy, which made for some touching moments.


The event was also a testament to the resilience and dedication of the Hakoah community. Even though the new club is being built, the club's members are committed to ensuring that it remains a vital part of the community. I made sure to capture the key moments—speeches, conversations, and candid shots of the members—all while keeping in mind the unique backdrop of the school hall, which has hosted the AGM during this transitional phase.

One of the most exciting aspects of this AGM was the anticipation of what’s to come. The new Hakoah site promises to be a state-of-the-art facility that will reflect the club’s growth and commitment to the community. As the club evolves, I’m excited to see how it will continue to inspire and support generations to come.


It was an honour to be part of such a historical event, and I look forward to documenting the club's journey as they move into their new chapter. Whether in a temporary space or a brand-new home, Hakoah's legacy of bringing people together, fostering a love of sport and culture, and supporting the Jewish community will undoubtedly thrive.
